Essential Thermodynamics An undergraduate textbook for chemical engineers Athanassios Z Panagiotopoulos 9781451564945 Books Reviews
- I failed out of thermo at Princeton and quite literally switched my major to avoid having to take it again, but I suppose that isn't the book's fault. Met the author at a departmental thing before I switched out and I managed to avoid cursing his name.
Anyway, it's a solid book. Explains things in pretty simple terms. Or so I'm told. - This book doesn't explain statistical mechanics very well, but I don't think anyone understands it anyway, so how could a textbook be expected to explain it in 6 pages? Right, it couldn't. Other than that the examples are pretty good, as long as you can follow calculus pretty well when intermediate steps are skipped. I was just happy to receive this in the mail within 5 days in pristine condition for half the price of the university's bookstore.
- Great book. It is somewhat fast paced. What I like the most is the challenging problems at the end of the chapters - very conceptual.
- This book is well written and has a slew of worked out examples. A good undergraduate text, though no solutions manual or selected answers, so I do not recommended this for independenct learners.
- Dr Paniagiatopoulos did it excellent in just few pages, mathematical derivation and excellent examples one of the best Chem Eng book in my collection
- Very good book. I wish it had a solutions manual though...so I know whether I'm doing the problems correctly or not...
- This book like the name suggest presents the most essential elements of thermodynamics to the reader. There are very few derivations and example problems, as well as, absolutely no tables.
The end of chapters problems are unique and deal with subject you are familiar with, but unfortunately there is no answer key to verify your answers.
The price of this book is unbeatable, as it a fraction of what any other thermo book would cost you.
My feelings on this book are mixed because, on the one hand it did give great concise explanations and on the other it did not provide any way for me to test my knowledge of the material. I was required to have this text for my undergraduate course but I had to supplement with another text in order to fully prepare for exams.
I have always believed that science is a "contact sport" and the best to learn is to work as many problems as possible. Unfortunately, this text does offer enough problems for a person to get their hands "dirty". - Book was for lecture. Toughest subject to date for degree. Book very vegue and had to refer to another book for clariffication
